Internet as a medium for information exchange in the Slovene agriculture

Abstract

A number of institutions in the Slovene agriculture maintains local information systems for own needs. However, information flow among parties is organized almost exclusively via printed matter. Information in this form is expensive, which results in limited quantity of information, as well as limited promptness. Parts of databases are redundant and duplicated, and database integrity is often in question. The solution of this problem is in adopting Internet and World Wide Web technology to construct an Intranet within Slovene agriculture. The idea is to use telecomunications and standards to link existing sites into a distributed information system, each of which is entirely autonomous, but with a common interface and prompt and transparent information exchange tying them into a coherent global informations system.
